World Bank continues its support extended to Sri Lanka

The World Bank recently issued a statement pledging its support to Sri Lanka, in order to aid in economic recovery amidst the covid-19 pandemic.

The statement was issued following a visit by the World Bank’s Country Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka Faris Hadad-Zervos to SL.

Hadad-Zervos explained that recovery and resilience could be achieved by export-oriented growth that harnesses the potential of private investments and increases competitiveness and growth.

A series of discussions involving Government officials as well as private sector and development partners, was held in order to discuss ways in which Sri Lanka could move towards greener, more sustainable economic initiatives while utilizing the power of digital technologies to create more opportunities for Sri Lankans.

A report too was launched alongside the visit by the World Bank officials. The report titled: Sri Lanka Development Update: Economic and Poverty Impact of COVID-19,  was released on the 9th of April provides an update on the performance of Sri Lanka’s economy, amidst the covid-19 pandemic.
