Sri Lanka implemented a host of travel restrictions over the past week, in order to contain the spread of the virus, however the Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said that no decisions have been made with regards to airport closures.

Airport closures are likely to restrict the entry of Sri Lankans who wish to return to Sri Lanka and therefore any closures will be based on advice and recommendations issued by the health authorities in Sri Lanka.

Several South Asian countries have imposed travel bans while countries like  the Maldives, Italy, Kuwait,Singapore, Philippines, UAE, Malaysia have temporarily halted flights arriving from Sri Lanka.

As of Tuesday last week, Sri Lankan authorities have declared that all travellers arriving in Sri Lanka from abroad, are required to undergo a mandatory 14 day quarantine. This applies even to those who have already received the vaccine.

The government has announced that it is currently taking steps to ensure that all citizens will receive the vaccine soon.
