The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill, will be announced by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, today (18).
The following will be debated at parliamentary sessions scheduled for tomorrow:
- regulations under the Finance Act, No. 11 of 2004
- Order under the Finance Act, No. 11 of 2006
- Regulation under the Foreign Exchange Act
- Order under the Finance Act, No. 35 of 2018
- Order under the Ports and Airports Development Levy Act
- Order under the Finance Act, No. 11 of 2006
- 8 Orders under the Special Commodity Levy Act
As confirmed by the Committee on Parliamentary Business, the debate on the Bill will take place on 19 and 20 May.
The debate will be held at the following times:
19 May: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
20 May: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Bill allows the setting up of a commission which has the power to grant registrations, licences, authorisations, and other approvals to carry on businesses in the Special Economic Zone [SEZ] (within the Colombo Port City), and therefore has been challenged before the Supreme Court.
