The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has urged the government to allow the private sector to import Covid-19 vaccines which have been approved by the government and health officials in Sri Lanka.
A statement was made by SJB National Organiser and Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake on Monday [17], at the media briefing held at the Opposition Leader’s office. Accordingly he stated that such a move would ease the strain placed on the government.
Meanwhile he also challenged the government raising questions as to why the government was issuing contradictory information to the public, in the midst of the pandemic situation. This includes contradictions with regards to securing adequate doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and misinformation with regards to the mixing of different vaccines.
He urged that the government should communicate responsibly to the public or risk losing the public’s trust.
The SJB also drew attention to the impact of Covid-19 on the education sector, stating that measures need to be implemented to equip all students with facilities, to enable learning from home.
The SJB commented saying that they were prepared to lend their support to the government, with regards to matters of National importance.
