In a statement Leader of the Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sajith Premadasa said that media freedom was being suppressed and Sri Lanka media organizations are constantly faced with threats and censorship.
These remarks were made, in response to the statement made recently by Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Hemantha Herath, who accused many Sri Lanka journalists (who were killed), of being “ third class” in nature.
The leader of the SJB recalled that history demonstrates that leaders who choose to suppress the media have often been met with opposition and dealt a blow from members of the public, who choose to retaliate.
