Red Cross to support Sri Lanka’s health sector

Red Cross Sri Lanka has announced that it will support the health sector’s efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, by providing transport facilities to health sector staff.

According to Dr. A.K.S. de Alwis, Addl. Secretary (Medical Services) of the Ministry, transport facilities will be provided to the Line Ministry of health as well as to the offices of the Regional Directors of Health Services who are engaged in COVID control activities in Kandy, Gampaha Colombo and Kalutara Districts. Staff working under COVID control programs in Central Government Hospitals will also have access to these facilities.

The cost of  50,000 Uber trips operating in the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, and Kandy, will be covered by the Red Cross.

Meanwhile the Minister of Health,Pavithra Wanniarachchi has expressed that the Ministry acknowledges and welcomes the support extended by Red Cross Sri Lanka, during this pandemic situation.
