Amidst the sudden rise in numbers of people who have contracted covid-19, once again private hospitals have appealed to obtain permission to import as well as administer vaccines to citizens. Vaccines would be administered based on set guidelines, under state instructions.
Thus far only the government has been importing covid-19 vaccines.
The move for the private sector to participate in the immunization program has been influenced by the situation in India, where states and hospital chains were recently permitted to administer vaccines to the population.
Sri Lanka is expected to receive 2.6 million doses of Sputnik V vaccines by July and 4.94 million doses of Pfizer vaccines by December.
