Sri Lanka plans to produce “green hydrogen” in collaboration with Norway. Green Hydrogen is considered to be one of the world’s most eco-friendly energy sources. It can be sourced using renewable energy sources.

Following a virtual meeting held between the Minister of Energy, Udaya Gammanpila and the Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Trine Jøranli Eskedal, it was decided that Sri Lanka will launch a project in order to produce Green Hydrogen. Hydrogen is the most freely available element in nature.

Green Hydrogen is produced by generating hydrogen, through a chemical process known as electrolysis. An electrical current is used to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen, in water.
