Korea is set to support Sri Lanka by donating humanitarian aid of $ 500,000 to the Government, in order to combat COVID-19.
Accordingly Sri Lanka will receive emergency medical equipment including PCR test kits and PCR test machines. This will help strengthen the Covid-19 response system in Sri Lanka.These efforts will also contribute towards strengthening public health cooperation between Korea and Sri Lanka.
Korea has also taken the following steps to express its support to Sri Lanka:
- Initiation of the ‘Stay Strong’ campaign (between Korea and Sri Lanka) conducted by the Korean Embassy in 2020.
- Sri Lanka also received PCR test kits worth $ 300,000 in December 2020.
- Donation of reusable fabric masks to the Sri Lanka Army and Police who dedicate their efforts towards battling the pandemic, protecting and honouring their motherland. (The masks were manufactured in Sri Lanka, aiding a social enterprise geared towards women empowerment.)
- Providing face masks to the Colombo Municipal Council
A united global response is required to battle the covid-19 pandemic. Accordingly, speaking on the pandemic situation in Sri Lanka, Korean Ambassador Jeong expressed his confidence in Sri Lanka’s ability to overcome the health crisis.He added that Korea had been a committed friend to Sri Lanka, and will continue to support and strengthen ties with Sri Lanka.
