Following agreements made with Vaccination companies, the GoSL forecasts that 40% of the population will receive vaccine coverage.
Following discussions with pharmaceutical companies, the government has been promised 2.6 million doses of Sputnik V vaccines (by July) and 4.94 million doses of Pfizer vaccines (by December).
Funding has been facilitated by the World Bank, Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the GoSL.
Sputnik V and AstraZeneca have been approved for emergency use in Sri Lanka. However Pfizer is yet to receive approval by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
Thus far, 925,242 individuals in Sri Lanka have received the first dose of the vaccine. The government is reluctant to import vaccines in large quantities due to its short expiration date.
Data shows that: 568,933 of the 925,242 persons vaccinated were from the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Districts.
It is predicted that on the whole if Sri Lanka was to receive a sufficient number of doses, the Pfizer and Sputnik V vaccines can be administered to persons below the age of 60.
