The John Keells Group has signed an agreement to contribute Rs. 100 million towards the Suwa Seriya Foundation, which operates the Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service in Sri Lanka. The ambulance service, which was launched in 2016 with the support of the Indian Government, aims to provide emergency medical assistance across the island, particularly to those living in rural and remote areas with limited access to healthcare facilities.
Financial constraints have been affecting the sustained operations of the service, and this contribution from the John Keells Group will allow the service to purchase new medical equipment, recruit and train additional medical personnel, and maintain its fleet of 297 ambulances equipped with emergency medical equipment.
The John Keells Group’s Chairman, Krishan Balendra, emphasized the company’s belief in supporting and empowering the communities in which they operate, and urged other benefactors to continue supporting this vital service.
The Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service has provided emergency medical assistance to thousands of individuals, saving countless lives. The John Keells Group’s contribution will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the service and the communities it serves.
